The Nassau County Police Department launched an investigation in June after four men were busted breaking in to a parked car in Jericho, stealing multiple items.
According to police, after being caught, a 49-year-old and 22-year-old man chased the group, locating them on Parkside Drive at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 21.
Both groups were involved in a physical struggle that led to the two Good Samaritans being physically assaulted.
During the assault, police said that one of the men fired two shots from a silver pistol, though no one was struck. The group then fled on foot west on Parkside Drive.
Police said the 49-year-old victim suffered blunt trauma to the back of the head, a broken nose, and bruising to the arms and legs.
The 22-year-old victim suffered a laceration to the forehead, a broken nose, and bruising to the arms and legs.
On Thursday, Oct. 1, the Nassau County Police Department announced that four men had been arrested for the assault:
- Joel Batista, 20, of Uniondale;
- Will Cruz Benavides, 20, of Elmont;
- Kenneth Delacruz, 20, of Freeport;
- Justin Osorio, 18, of Freeport.
All four were charged with second-degree attempted murder. Additionally, Batista was charged with four counts of robbery, three counts of criminal possession of a weapon, and criminal use of a firearm.
Batista, Cruz Benavides, and Delacruz have already been arraigned. Osorio is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday, Oct. 2 in Mineola.
